The last month we have had lots of time on the lake with grand kids.
Tracy came down and we had a great long weekend with her , Scott, Alexandrea and Jacob. We also had Rob, Monica, Denise and Robbie for a week.
Jen is hopefully coming down for a weekend the end of this month. The weather has been great, for these two visits when it comes to being out on the lake. It gets pretty hot, but when it does we just head for a nearby cove to cool off in!
The grand kids of course all love riding in tubes,
seeing how they can do all types of things to eventually make themselves fall of it! A great way to entertain them.
As we look back at the time they spent with us,
having the boat this year was well worth getting it last fall. We know they all enjoyed it, and we look forward to a lot more summer fun with everyone on the boat in the future.
Kath and I enjoy going out, late in the day as the heat slowly calms down. The water is at a perfect temperature now. We can still remember that first dip in late spring being so cold you didn't stay in long. Now you hate to get out, as the sun starts to go down and we have to get back to the dock to catch the last "taxi" to get us back to the marina.
At night we take the dogs along. They don't care for to much heat though, so we only take them down after it is cooling down. We still have a long way to go, to be able to go to our slip by way of the road like we can when the lake is at normal height. It is slowly receding though. The lake hit an all time high this year at 696.5 feet above sea level. Normal height is 654 feet above sea level.
It has gone down to 686 feet, so you can see why the road we usually drive on is still under water.
We knew when we bought the house close to two years ago that we would have to be replacing the roof someday. We developed a small leak this spring when the rain was hitting us on a daily basis. So last week we had a new roof installed.Hopefully it lasts many years for us.
The relentless heat wave that has hit almost the entire country, is in full force down here. Running a daily temp of right at 100 or a tad over! So Kath is busy on a nightly basis watering her plants around the yard. A few have died off, but hopefully they will come back in the spring of 2012.
The wildlife we have around here continues to be entertaining for us. We have two resident box turtles in the backyard, and we saw our first road runner a few weeks back. This year was evidently a good year for does having babies. They are so cute when they come around, and a surprising number of twin fawns.
All is well with us down here, just staying in when it is to hot out, and cooling down late in the day on the lake. So till the next time, everyone stay cool!!
Bob and Kathy
