The Storm

August 2nd, was a day we could have done without. A storm rolled through here right about 6pm. Kath was up at the grocery store, got soaked getting back to her car, and really high winds were coming through. It has been officially called a "Down burst". The entire dock we were in landed literally upside down on the dock to the east of it. The damage to boats and the docks was unbelievable. Some how our boat escaped its slip on the dock that flipped over, and stayed upright. She still runs fine, just appears it was in a battle during a war as you can see. We are going to do our best to somehow arrange with the insurance company to not have them total it out. If they do, we are going to have to be first in line for salvage rights. Kath has set her goal to keep "Ol' Bones" somehow. We don't have the money to spend on another pontoon, and good ones are going to be scarce and go for a high price, due to the destruction of boats in this storm. So we are waiting for estimates to come in, to see how bad it really is. The main thing is she kept upright. Tipping over, and submerging the motor is no doubt very costly.

I have managed to get a few good days in fly fishing on the tail waters below the dam. The river has been wadable most of the time because the lake level is low. So they only generate at peak periods.
This weekend I went both days, the weather was great for a change....staying away from the "century mark" on the thermometers!

Saturday fishing was great, had a total of seven, two were really nice.....a bit over 13". Today was a little tougher.  They were releasing a bit more water, increasing the flow down river. When this happens, it becomes harder to use my flies that are intended to go to the bottom of the river. Instead, they drift back up, once they are running straight at the current. So today I was using a one and only favorite of mine. I caught an 18" brown trout one Sunday a while back using it. I caught a small one today on it, then I lost three to it. Then the last one that hit it, broke the line, and my fly is gone now! Hope to run into the old guy someday, so I can talk him into selling me a few. Those that came up and hit the fly, looked pretty good. Something about a fish hitting a fly, or a lure on top of the water! So now I will always wonder how big they might have been..................

Kath has been working more then she cares to......looking forward to slowing down hopefully someday soon. She has been feeling fine.

So till the next time, everyone take care!
Bob and Kathy
